CRDGC Was Invited to Xiushui, Jiangxi to Negotiate and Cooperate On Carbon Sequestration Projects
2022-01-11
On January 8th,the group delegation of 9 people went to Xiushui County, Jiangxi Province, the old revolutionary base, to communicate with relevant local departments on the cooperation of carbon sequestration projects and reached a preliminary consensus. County Magistrate Gong met our delegation in his busy schedule, introduced the culture, history, economy and Humanities of Xiushui County, and said that he would fully support the promotion of the project.
Carbon sink refers to the process, activity or mechanism of absorbing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through afforestation, vegetation restoration and other measures, so as to reduce the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In short, it is to donate money for afforestation and let the forests they invest in eliminate the carbon dioxide emitted by their work and life.
Compared with ordinary afforestation, carbon sequestration afforestation highlights the carbon sequestration function of forest, has special technical requirements such as carbon sequestration measurement and monitoring, and emphasizes the multiple benefits of forest. At the same time, forestry carbon sequestration project is a qualified greenhouse gas project developed according to the forestry project methodology and procedures related to emission reduction mechanism. Forests absorb carbon dioxide through photosynthesis. Compared with industry, carbon sequestration cost is low, which is known as "green gold". It is predicted that in 2020, the transaction volume of the global carbon market will reach US $300 billion.
In its assessment report, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on climate change pointed out that forestry has a variety of benefits and has the dual functions of mitigating and adapting to climate change. It is an important and economically feasible measure to increase carbon sinks and reduce emissions in the next 30 to 50 years. According to relevant data, for each cubic meter of forest growth, it can absorb about 1.83 tons of carbon dioxide and release 1.62 tons of oxygen. At the United Nations climate conference, the Chinese government made a solemn commitment to vigorously increase forest carbon sequestration, strive to increase the forest area by 40 million hectares and the forest volume by 1.3 billion cubic meters by 2020.
We believe that the implementation of the project will not only generate the expected carbon sequestration, but also provide employment opportunities, good living environment and natural landscape for the local people. It is of great significance to disseminate the concept of green and low carbon, improve the public's awareness and ability to cope with climate change, conserve water and soil, improve the environment and protect biodiversity, Make positive contributions to promoting the sustainable development of local social economy.
