Moutai liquor is a traditional specialty of China. It is one of the three well-known distilled liquors, which are as famous as Scotch whisky and French cognac. At the same time, it is also one of China's three famous liquor (Moutai series, Wuliangye series, Jiannanchun Series) and the originator of Daqu jiang-flavor Chinese spirits. In 1996, Moutai liquor brewery technology was identified as a state secret to be protected, and it was listed in the first batch of national material and cultural heritage in 2001. The headquarters of Moutai Group is located in Moutai Town, Renhuai City, Zunyi City, Guizhou Province, with an average elevation of 423 meters and an area of 15000 mu. Among them, the geographical indication product protection area of "Guizhou Moutai liquor" is about 15.03 square kilometers.

The distillery is located in the upper stream of the Chishui River, which makes the water pure and rich in minerals, the valley topography and the hot and humid climate in some areas creates the suitable environment for the fermentation. The liquor brewery and distillery in local area has a long history, the quality and proficient brew masters have been passing this unique technique from generation to generation.
